As shocking as it may seem for a movie with Rapunzel’s hair and wicked witch old age makeup, the Sondheim movie musical was snubbed in the announcement of the seven films that will compete for three spots on Oscar nomination morning. Other high-profile films that didn’t make the cut were The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (LOTR fatigue, maybe?), Get on Up and Unbroken.
The films that made the cut are:
“The Amazing Spider-Man 2″
“Foxcatcher”
“The Grand Budapest Hotel”
“Guardians of the Galaxy”
“Maleficent”
“Noah”
“The Theory of Everything”
My best guess right know says the final three will be Guardians of the Galaxy, Foxcatcher and The Theory of Everything. That branch loves its fake noses and aging makeup but don’t count out Angelina Jolie’s critic-slashing cheekbones to make a play here.
