Official Trailer and Poster for Fox Searchlight’s Oscar Contender ‘YOUTH’
Fox Searchlight has revealed the official trailer and poster for what is likely its main Oscar contender Youth today and like the European trailer from a few weeks ago, it’s an emotional and lyrical piece of beauty. With Fox Searchlight coming off two Best Picture wins in a row (Birdman and 12 Years a Slave) and featuring Oscar-worthy turns from Best Actor contender Michael Caine and Best Supporting Actor hopeful Harvey Keitel and a scene-stealing cameo from two-time Oscar winner Jane Fonda, this is not to be missed.
From Fox Searchlight:
[box type=”shadow” align=”aligncenter” class=”” width=””]From Paolo Sorrentino, the director of Italy’s Oscar foreign language winner THE GREAT BEAUTY comes YOUTH, about two longtime friends vacationing in the Swiss Alps. Oscar winning actor Michael Caine plays Fred, an acclaimed composer and conductor, who brings along his daughter (Rachel Weisz) and best friend Mick (Harvey Keitel), a renowned filmmaker. While Mick scrambles to finish the screenplay for what he imagines will be his last important film, Fred has no intention of resuming his musical career. The two men reflect on their past, each finding that some of the most important experiences can come later in life.[/box]
Everything about this Cannes entry, from starring a trio of Oscar winners and a nominee to the subject seems like AMPAS catnip. The Academy loves to think it’s a progressive organization that rewards topical films but at its heart it’s a narcissistic group and a film that focuses on aging and has characters involved in the film and music industry is right up their alley. The majority of Oscar voters are exactly like Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel and who doesn’t like a movie that speaks directly to them?
After appearances at the Toronto, Chicago, Austin (and likely more) film festivals this fall Youth will be released by Fox Searchlight on December 5th.
