From Oscar-winner Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain, Life of Pi) comes the trailer for one of the most anticipated films of 2016, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.

Based on the part drama-part comedy-part satiric novel of the same name by Ben Fountain and adapted by Oscar-winner Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) and Jean-Christophe Castelli, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk tells the story of young infantryman Billy Lynn (played by newcomer Joe Alwyn) cutting back and forth between his time in Iraq as a soldier to an elaborate halftime show appearance, part of a “victory tour,” where he and his Bravo Team are celebrated as heroes before being shipped out back to Iraq again. The film also stars Kristen Stewart, Chris Tucker, Garrett Hedlund, Vin Diesel and Steve Martin.

One of the more talked about elements of the film was Lee’s decision to film this story with breakthrough technology. It’s the first film to be partially shot with a 120 frame per second rate (most films are shot with at 24fps)  and excerpts were recently shown at the National Association of Broadcasters Show in Las Vegas last month who were reportedly blown away. The film was also shot in 3D and uses 4K technology to create the most immersive ‘war-like’ experience possible. Interestingly though, there is no digital projector currently in place capable of playing back 4K and 3D at 120fps and Sony has yet to reveal how the film will be released to take advantage of this burgeoning technology. For NAB, a projector configuration that used two 4K Mirage laser projectors (from manufacturer Christie), Dolby 3D glasses and 7th Sense’s Delta Infinity III servers were used. We’ll keep you updated on how this rollout will happen.

On the Oscars front the film continues to rank high on the Gold Rush Gang and Forum Oscar Poll Results, consistently placing in the top 3 and this first trailer will only bolster its chances of being a major player this season for the film, Lee and possible acting nominations for Steve Martin, Kristen Stewart as well as newcomer Alwyn.

Sony Pictures/Tri-Star will release Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk on November 11th.
